Community Service

Community Service is one of the best known events of any organization. Our Ottawa Sunrise Rotary Club is involved in several local projects. Our most visible project has been the annual Toy & Book float in the Ottawa Festival of Lights Parade, held the Friday evening after Thanksgiving. In 1990, our first year for this project, we collected 45 toys. In 1998 we added children’s books to our request list and to date have collected 6,200 toys and 3,550 books. All of these items are delivered to the Ottawa Area Salvation Army office for distribution with their food baskets. Over the years, we are sure there have been many smiles on Christmas morning when these gifts were opened by children who are living in below average conditions.

World Community Service

World Community Service is a Rotary International sponsored service program.  Annual contributions by our club members has provided for clean drinking water wells in Africa for $150 each, a Sudden Infant Death Syndrome monitor in a Payne, Chile clinic for $350, and funding to help pay for a medical van in Brazil.  Rotary International has undertaken hundreds of “community service” projects for Health, Hunger & Humanity that are provided to our world wide community which is serve by Rotarians.
