Ministries

We serve a loving God in many different ways. Here are some of them.

Ministries of
Trinity Lutheran Church

Joyful Chaos

Young people from 5th grade through high school gather once a week with adult volunteers to build community and explore issues of faith through service and the arts. All youth are welcome on Monday evenings, 6pm – 7:30pm, in the Education Building Art Room. For more information, please email our Director of Youth and Family Ministries.

Trinity Ties

Each month, members and friends of Trinity Lutheran Church attempt to gather for fellowship. Different volunteers agree to host anything from a movie night in the church Lounge to a pizza night at Bianchi’s. Other gatherings have seen folks Christmas caroling, roasting marshmallows at a bonfire, and enjoying trivia night together at the Reddick Mansion. Stay tuned for more information about our next gathering. Perhaps you would like to host! If so, send the church office an email. We love our volunteers, and we are happy to help make arrangements!

Sunday Session

On Sundays at 9am, from September to May, kids from preschool through 6th grade connect before worship for ‘Sunday Session’ in the Education Building. Following Sunday Session, they attend worship in the sanctuary, 10am – 11am, where they enjoy seeing the traditions of our faith and community life modeled for them. We believe this is an important part of their faith formation. All are welcome!

Affirmation of Baptism

This program for our 7th and 8th graders meets on Sundays at 9am in the Education Building, September through May, in preparation for Affirmation of Baptism. Affirmation of Baptism is when young Lutheran followers of Christ publicly declare for themselves that they will live out the promises made for them by their parents and sponsors in their baptism (for those who were baptized as infants). For more information about what Lutherans in the ELCA believe about Affirmation of Baptism, please visit the following link: https://www.elca.org/Our-Work/Congregations-and-Synods/Faith-Practices/Living-Our-Baptismal-Covenant.

First Communion

Anyone in second grade or older (adults, included) is welcome to attend our three-session First Communion class held during Lent each year. We meet before worship from 9am – 9:50am in Fellowship Hall, and the First Communion service is celebrated on the Sunday after Easter Sunday. Class dates are listed on Facebook and in ‘Trinity at a Glance’. Please contact the church office or connect with Pastor for more information and/ or to register for the class.

Camp TLC

Camp TLC is our annual summer youth program. For four days, young people from ages 4 – 14 gather in the late afternoon and early evening to learn about Jesus and his message of love for all. Though activities change from year to year, our time together is usually filled with storytelling, puppetry, pottery, bead-making, singing, drum circles, Ga-Ga Ball, worship, and more! All are welcome, no matter what age. Part of what makes Camp TLC so impactful and exciting are the volunteers who share their time and wisdom for an afternoon (or more, if they wish). Come join the fun! Keep a lookout on Facebook or in ‘Trinity at a Glance’ for more information.

What To Expect:

Worship service is every Sunday at 10:00 AM.

We believe God is our creator and has promised to love us always.

We believe Jesus Christ, fully God and fully human, is God’s promise living among us. He experienced all the pain and joy and challenges of human life. God’s
forgiving love was revealed to us when Jesus suffered death on the cross. He came back to new life and has promised us new life in unity with God.

We believe the Holy Spirit is God’s promise touching our spirits and animating our lives, guiding us – even through our most difficult moments.

We believe God is among us in community. Mysterious, yet very real, God promises to be with us always, even to the end of the age.

We welcome wiggles and coos sounds of youth!. We are eager to engage them in the life of worship and their families, at church. Our message for all ages each Sunday will speak directly to you with messages that are relevant to them. Sunday Session is from 9-10 during the school year on most Sunday mornings in our education building. There is space to move around plus accessible seating in our pews. There is also a children’ s area to allow for movement breaks. The nursery is available for children to enjoy with their parent’s supervision.

We are located at 717 Chambers St. in Ottawa, Illinois nestled in a neighborhood on Ottawa’s south side. There are parking lots to the south of the building and to the north as well as the east side of the building. There is an elevator located in the sanctuary building that is at the east end of the walkway. The walkway connects the sanctuary to the education building.

This is a friendly community that will welcome you where you are at in your faith journey whether you have solid Christian beliefs or not. Hospitality is an important practice for us. Pastor is always eager to meet new people and learn about their faith perspectives to see how they might intersect with Christ’s mission of loving God and loving our neighbors as ourselves.
